Simplehuman until a few weeks ago was used by a closed set of people who were kind enough to share their usage experience every week. Over time, the number of beta users grew and checking in with everyone, every week, became quite untenable.
Hence we built in instrumentation in the app to figure out how you are using Simplehuman, and if it was still helping you be faster at email.
The ethos behind Simplehuman was always to build a simple, safe, and light-weight email add-on that makes people faster at email. In the same spirit, we decided to NOT collect any PII (personally identifiable information) of our users and use pseudonymous IDs instead until the need for identifying our users arises.
Until then, we promise to give you a clean tracking environment. We track the following events from today onwards -
In the spirit of transparency & disclosure, here is a screenshot of the NUDGE_SHOWN event from Mixpanel (our analytics tool, we highly recommend ⭐). This shows the properties that are collected with each event. The properties pointed out in red are the closest we get to identifying you, and they are all pseudonymised as promised.
We intend to continue with this promise of data transparency in all future updates. You will know if we are tracking new events or data.
New update as of 6th November: You can now login to Simplehuman using your Google account. This helps us personalise the keyboard shortcut learning model for you. If you choose to login, please note that your email address will be stored in our system and all the above events are tagged to that email address.
We still do NOT read your email, content, or any other personal information.
Upwards and onwards 🏁
